The fourth annual Lard Butt 1K (yes, that is a 1K) is set for Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Seattle's Magnuson Park.  Dedicated to the below-average athlete and weekend warrior in all of us, the Lard Butt 1K will replace timing chips with chocolate chips, water stations with donut stations and feature a well-stocked beer garden before and after, along with a Health and Fatness Expo.

On top of being great fun for those who may be in decent shape and don't take themselves too seriously, it's an ideal confidence-builder for those of us not up to doing 5- or 10-K events.

The Lard Butt 1K offers three ways to attack the grueling one-kilometer (roughly six-tenths of one mile) course.

There will be 3 wave starts:

  • Show-off Wave:  For those with the audacity to run (expect heckling from race marshals and spectators);
  • Legends Wave: For those 250 pounds and heavier;
  • Waddlers Wave: For the rest of us.

Advance Registration is $30, covering event entry, a Lard Butt 1K Tee-Shirt, one beer, cup of wine, or mimosa for those 21 and over, along with other foods and on-site surprises.  Week- and day-of registration costs increase to $40.  Participants can register online at or at in-person at locations listed on this site.

The 1K is dog-friendly and we will have a Kids Dash for those 10 and younger.

Regional sports radio personality “The Fish” Jeff Aaron will emcee the Lard Butt 1K, with numerous other elite and washed-up athletes, coaches, and other luminaries likely to be on-hand.

Your bib number also gets you one free beverage of choice in the beer garden (must be 21 or over of course. Please bring valid ID and cash.)
